Doula cost estimator
What self-pay doula care usually costs in the US, from the prices doulas publish themselves. Pick a service type, then compare the low, middle and high of the typical published range.
How we calculated this
Source for the ranges: Bornbir, "How Much Does a Doula Cost? (2026 Prices)", bornbir.com/doula-cost, read on October 20, 2026. Bornbir reports a median flat-rate doula package of $1,100 with a typical range of $450 to $1,800, and a median hourly rate of $45 with a typical range of $35 to $55, computed from 11,583 package prices listed by 4,289 providers across the US. We multiply the hourly figures by the hours you enter.
Cross-check: DoulaBub's analysis of 4,303 public DoulaMatch profiles (doulabub.com/resources/doula-pricing-data, July 2026) found a median birth package of $1,600 and a median postpartum rate of $47.50 per hour, inside the Bornbir ranges we use.
Local example of spread: the NYC Doula Collective publishes member fees of $500 to $5,000 for birth support (nycdoulacollective.com/services-and-fees, read October 20, 2026). Big-city prices run well above the national median, and trainee doulas often charge less.
These are self-pay figures. In the US states that reimburse doula care through Medicaid, eligible families can pay nothing; check the Medicaid doula coverage tool. Prices outside the US differ from these ranges.
Method checked on 2026-10-20.
Not a quote and not medical or financial advice. Doula fees are set by each doula and change; confirm the price and what it includes with the doula before you book.
Questions
- Is this a quote?
- No. Each doula sets their own fee. This tool shows the middle and the ends of the range that thousands of doulas publish, so a real quote looks reasonable or not.
- What does a birth package usually include?
- Typically one or two prenatal visits, being on call around your due date, continuous support during labour and birth, and a postpartum follow-up visit. Ask each doula what their package covers.
- Can I pay less than the low end?
- Often, yes. Community doula programs provide free or low-cost support, many doulas offer sliding-scale fees or payment plans, and doulas in training charge less. Filter listings for community doula programs.
